Class A CDL

At our school, you will train to receive your Class A CDL. Currently, we will train for automatic trucks only. This means you will have an automatic restriction on your CDL. If you are under the age of 21, you will also have an intrastate-only restriction as drivers ages 18-20 are only allowed to drive within the state of Texas.

When we expand our program to include manual trucks, we will update this page. As a Huffman CDL Academy alumni, you will be eligible to return to our school to get your automatic restriction dropped.

What is a CDL? In short, CDL stands for Commercial Driver’s License. It allows you to drive vehicles that are considered commercial vehicles in the state of Texas at age 18 and the rest of the United States once you are the age of 21.

What is the CDL process? You can read in detail about the CDL process on the DPS website here. For our program, all Entry Level Driver Training will be done online, then you will obtain your Commercial Learner's Permit at the DPS, at which point you'll be ready to start the Behind-the-Wheel training with us. Once that is complete, you'll be ready to test for your CDL!

What to expect at school:

Our total tuition is $2700. Daily class times have a limit of 4 students, so you will be required to sign up for each class time you plan to attend. This can be done via your student portal. You will be eligible for in-person training as soon as you have obtained your Commercial Learner’s Permit (we will guide you through that process).

Class times are scheduled in the evenings and on Saturdays - our students will be able to continue their full time jobs while training for their future job!

What to expect after school:

Once you have completed the online theory training, obtained your Commercial Learner’s Permit, and then completed our in person and behind the wheel training, you will be eligible to take your state CDL exam. You have one test attempt using our truck and trailer, which you will have learned on, included in your tuition. Once you pass your CDL exam, you are a CDL holder and are eligible to apply for CDL jobs!
